I care for Air Campaign

Project Background:

Clean Energy Nepal on behalf of Clean Air Network Nepal with Nepal Institute for Development Studies successfully completed the “I care for Air Campaign” from March 2010 to October 2010. 
I care for air campaign aimed at sensitizing government, other support agencies and local public about issues of Air Quality Management so that interest, investment and actions are increased to tackle issues of Air Pollution and Climate Change. The other objectives of the campaign was to facilitate youth/trainers on delivering Air Pollution Interactive Education with the students, enhance knowledge sharing among the network members and generate awareness of walkability as an important issues in developing countries.

 

Project Activities:
•    Development of Air Pollution Tool Kit for School Students
•    Clean Air Symposium: Talk Program for Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Build Up
•    Development of Walkability Index
•    Clean Air Summit

 

Project Outcomes:
•    
The implementation of Air Pollution Toolkit gave conceptual knowledge about the Air Pollution to more than 160 students and sensitized the same number of families.
•    The one-day symposium fostered the coordination between different sectors and stakeholders working on air quality issues and enhanced knowledge sharing among the network members. Also, government and private sectors were sensitized on the urgency to address kathmandu’s air pollution.
•    Walkability study conducted generated the walkability as an important issue in Kathmandu and public interest to address the issues was documented. The major outcome of the Walkability study was the government’s decision to seal the Kathmandu Durbar Square as a “no-vehicle” zone so as to promote Walkability and Tourism.
•    The two day-clean Air summit identified different issues related to air quality and drafted a legally binding, realistic action plan to address the degrading Air Quality of Kathmandu valley. Also, the program was able to sensitize more than 40 participants on different issues of Air Pollution.
