Youth Training on Clean Air

Clean Energy Nepal organized youth training under the Safe and Clean Air For All (SAFA) Campaign. During the campaign, 463 youths (Male: 226, Female: 237) from Dhangadi, Surkhet, Ilam, Kathmandu, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Pokhara and Bhairahawa were capacitated in terms of local air pollution issues through the orientation on air pollution and its impact on the local level, air quality data collection from Open Seneca, data analysis, monitoring of low-cost sensors followed by the satellite imagery training. Likewise, the youths were also capacitated about the data access, implication and use to sensitize the local community and the government as well. The selected youths were from Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) and local youth of the cities. With the objective to empower and capacitate youth, the training contained that air pollution is a worldwide known issue where more than 90% population of the world is exposed to an unhealthy level of air pollution. Reviewing the status Nepal is always ranked as a highly polluted country in the world. Similarly, in order to capacitate the youth and explain the importance of air pollution monitoring training to youth facilitated by Mr. Pawan Gupta, Senior Scientist, NASA on “Air Quality Monitoring from Satellite Imagery” was organized virtually in order to expand knowledge of tracking quantity of pollution and the use of applications of the measured parameters through satellite for various quality applications.
